EMPOWERED STORIES
from California’s Gold Country

Sierra Gold will take viewers on an incredible journey of discovery into the rich history, legendary landmarks, and amazing people up and down the Sierra Nevada. This documentary series will feature a wide variety of stories capturing the enduring spirit of California still evident in our foothill and mountain communities.

Triggered by the Gold Rush in 1849, California experienced an influx of immigrants seeking a new life, quick fortune, religious freedom and untamed beauty. Each brought their own culture, their ideas, and hopes for the future to this new frontier, and all contributed to a culture of positivity, entrepreneurship, and confidence that is uniquely Californian.

Today, the spirit and culture of California soars with its amazing people and their enduring adventures. The debut episode highlights three brave woman. From an ultra-running pioneer blazing trails from Lake Tahoe to Auburn to a part-time prospector striking gold in El Dorado County, and a green rush advocate educating her Nevada County community, these three women share their incredible stories.

Sierra Gold is presented by KVIE Sacramento which reaches 1.4 million households in the nation’s 20th largest broadcast market. KVIE believes Sierra Gold will appeal to both local viewers and many other PBS stations across the U.S. and promises to be a fascinating and entertaining series, one that will make for outstanding programming.

Sierra Gold is produced and hosted by Wes Woodland, an award-winning storyteller from the Gold Country, who has created more than two thousand hours of network and cable Television content, including the Dr. Phil Show, The Bachelorette, HGTV's Rock The Block, Entertainment Tonight and many more. He’s won numerous awards and has received three Emmy nominations. Learn more about Wes Woodland.
